Motorcyclist Killed in VA Beach Crash
One person has died after a crash between a motorcycle and a car in Virginia Beach this weekend. Police responded to the March 10, 2018 accident around 7 PM. It is unclear exactly what caused the wreck, but we do know that the vehicles collided near the intersection of Rainbow Drive and S. Independence Blvd. First responders attempted to save the life of the motorcyclist, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident. No word has been given as to whether or not the driver of the car will be charged.
Common Causes of Motorcycle Wrecks
Tragically, many motorcycle accidents are not the fault of the biker, but of the other motorists around them. Many drivers are accustomed to looking out for other vehicles their own size and can easily miss smaller vehicles like motorcycles and scooters. This often means changing lanes into the path of a motorcycle or cutting in front of one to make a left turn. Too often, the motorcyclist cannot stop in time to prevent a collision.
Options for Surviving Family Members
When motorcyclists are killed because of another driver’s negligence, their family may pursue a wrongful death lawsuit to seek damages. This can include compensation for medical care, funeral costs, lost earning capacity and even non-economic damages like loss of companionship. While no amount of money can make up for the loss of a loved one, a wrongful death settlement can ensure the best future possible for the victim’s surviving family members.
