Chesapeake Crash Injures Two
The driver responsible for a wrong-way accident in Chesapeake this weekend has been arrested under suspicion of drunk driving. Police received word of the crash around 6 AM the morning of March 18, 2018. When the arrived on scene, they discovered that a Ford F-150 truck heading westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-264 collided with a eastbound Chevrolet Suburban head-on. They arrested the man driving the pickup truck and transported both people in the Chevrolet Suburban to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Holiday Driving Risks
Though this accident occurred the day after St. Patrick’s Day, many locals partied through the night. St. Patrick’s Day is a popular holiday in Hampton Roads, with celebrations throughout the Seven Cities. Unfortunately, this means there are lots of drunk drivers still on the roads late into the night and even into the next morning. While we associate drunk driving with holidays like New Years Eve and Fourth of July, virtually any reason to celebrate can cause drivers to make bad decisions behind the wheel.
Tragically, almost all wrong way accidents like this one are caused by drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In some cases, drivers who are drowsy or distracted are also to blame. Regardless of the exact cause of a wrong way accident, the results are often the same: serious or even deadly injuries. We can only hope that those injured in this incident make a full recovery.
