Fatal Caroline County Car Accident Kills 3 on Rt 721

A deadly crash in Caroline County has claimed the lives of three people. Initial reports show that the Saturday, February 3, 2018 collision occurred around 10 PM on Route 721 at Route 640. Police say that the driver veered off the road to the right and overcorrected, sending the vehicle across the center line before veering off to the left of the road. The car flipped onto its side before crashing into a tree. Tragically, all three occupants died at the scene. Two of the three were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Investigations are still ongoing, but authorities believe speed was a factor in the collision.

Deadly Speed

When a car is pushed to its limits, things can spin out of control incredibly quickly. Chances are good that the 20-something driver was confident in their car’s ability to perform at high speeds. Even if vehicles are designed to go at excessive speeds, there is a reason for speed limits. It can be difficult for some thrill seekers to believe that those speed limits are in place for their own safety.

Wrongful Death Lawsuits

When a passenger is killed in a crash like this one, the surviving family members may have reason to file a wrongful death lawsuit. By working with an attorney, family members of the victims can determine if they have a viable case. Had the driver in this incident not been speeding, three people would likely still been alive today. Funeral costs, lost future earnings and medical bills can all be included in a wrongful death settlement. Companionship is irreplaceable, but reimbursing family members for the economic and non-economic damages of a fatal crash is the right thing to do.
